I’m looking at the 2020-2021 school year through the eyes of a parent and a teacher; my children are in high school and junior high, and we have had to navigate the ups and downs of distance learning this past year. My hope for this coming year is to bring meaningful content and varied lessons with a focus on filling in the gaps from our pandemic year. This coming year we will read several novels as well as poems and short stories as we study influential authors and writers. In the writing portion of the class, we will focus on developing clarity in sentences and paragraphs, properly citing the text, and providing meaningful content.
Hello, my name is Betsy Justice and I am the 7th grade teacher at OLG. This is my fifth year at Our Lady of Guadalupe School, and I’m happy to be continuing teaching 7th and 8th grade ELA. I started teaching 7th grade homeroom more than twenty years ago, and this is my absolute favorite grade as homeroom teacher! I’m happy to return to the 7th grade position at OLG. I have my Masters of Arts in Teaching as well as a bachelor’s degree in English and an advanced degree from The Catholic University. English and Writing are my passion, and I love sharing that joy with the students in the Language Arts classes as well as sharing my Catholic faith through the Religion curriculum.
My family and I enjoy traveling, hiking, biking, cooking, watching movies together, and playing soccer, football, and tennis. We’ve been making delicious recipes from my husband’s Italian grandmother during quarantine that we never have time for during our regular busy lives. We have a puppy, Harold, who loves to say hello to the students during Zoom calls and has kept us on a rigorous schedule of early wake ups and long walks regardless of school hours.
