Students will understand:
the importance of being active participants at liturgical celebrations.
analysis of scripture, specifically the teachings of Jesus and the Good News.
the importance of and distinction between the four Gospels.
the symbols, rituals, and importance of the seven Sacraments.
the significance of the Church’s creedal statements, particularly the Nicene Creed.
the Catholic tradition of prayer through participation and study.
the Church’s moral teaching and to act in a responsible, Christian manner.
to recognize those in need and work with the school community to address those needs.
that “bullying” does not reflect Christian behavior, and how to avoid the “bully”, the “bullied”, or the “bystander”.
Language Arts & Literature
Students will be able to:
write for a variety of purposes using an effective method of planning and composing.
summarize main ideas, paraphrase, and apply critical thinking across subject areas.
properly use grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, and spelling.
identify and incorporate literary devices.
cite and explain the text as clear evidence in support of an argument.
properly cite sources using the Modern Language Association (MLA 8) documentation style.
develop a variety of projects to demonstrate understanding of classroom topics.
make meaningful connections to current events and personal experiences through literature
make presentations using various methods and media.
comfortably function with basic electronic software.
Math
Students will understand:
how to work with positive and negative integers.
how to evaluate and set up multi-variable expressions.
how to work with scientific notation and exponents, and understanding exponent rules.
how to apply proportions, ratios, rates and percents.
how to use certain mathematical properties to solve equations, such as the distributive property.
how to solve simple and multi-step equations involving rational numbers, decimals, fractions, and percents.
to solve for perimeter, area, volume, surface area, and circumference of different figures.
about introduction to linear functions and equations, especially through coordinate graphing.
how to apply these skills to “real life” situations.
Next generation Science
Students will learn:
about animal classification.
about the Six Kingdoms of life and all organisms within them.
about cell biology.
about the diversity of life.
the role of genetics, including environmental influence + genetics
the physical principles in living systems, i.e., photosynthesis, respiration, chemical reactions in organisms, energy flow.
about interactions among organisms in ecosystems/biodiversity.
about the fossil record, diversity, extinction, and natural selection of life forms.
participate in the school science faire.
Social Studies
Students will learn:
to chronicle the social, cultural, and technological changes that occurred in Europe, Africa, Asia and South America.
about the social, political, religious, and cultural development of medieval societies.
about medieval social studies through hands-on activities
about the geography of the medieval world
